Initiatives

Below are some of EDR’s main events and initiatives:

Shoe Donation

During summer 2012, Explore DR and Buckner brought together a group of volunteers and donated over 150 pairs of shoes to the children in the “Centro de Desarrollo Infantil”, an educational center located in Villa Juana in the Dominican Republic. It was a wonderful day; in which the children not only got new shoes, but also participated in numerous educational and recreational activities organized by EDR volunteers.

EDR Health Day – March 3, 2012

EDR, Medek Pharma, RED Juvenil and the Dominican National Police (Policia Nacional Dominicana) organized a Health Day in which kids in Villa Juana and their parents were able to receive medical assistance, regular checkups, and medicine for free.

We started off the day with a speech encouraging love, respect and tolerance within the family and the community. After the speech, the children and their families waited for their turn to see a doctor. A group of EDR volunteers organized everything so that everyone could be able to receive medical assistance. We had pediatricians, psychologists, gynecologists, cardiologists and general doctors. The event was a success; over five hundred (500) impoverished people from the area received medical assistance that day.

We want to thank Medek Pharma for helping us organize this event and for providing us with the medicine and doctors, as well as the Dominican National Police, the Red Juvenil and the volunteers for their support and amazing work.

March 2012

EDR is collaborating with World Vision in the Dominican Republic, by contributing to their project and mission to stop hunger in the impoverished province of Independencia. Independencias’s population is estimated to be around 50,833. The families and communities in this province live in deprived conditions; where milk is very scarce (milk production has declined over 75% in the past few years) and the lake Enriquillo is continuously growing and flooding neighborhoods. EDR is proud to help World Vision in this initiative to stop hunger. We invite you to participate by purchasing tshirts, hats and/or buttons, or making food or monetary donations. Color of Our People Conference:

The “Color of Our People” Fundraising Conference brought the Dominican Culture to life. It culturally immersed the Montreal community by showing them the different aspects that make Dominican Republic unique. We were honored to have the Consul General and the Ambassador to the Dominican Republic in Canada as speakers. They shared their perspectives on the social gaps that exist in our country. Differences between the North American and Dominican educational systems were also compared.

“Bailamos” Fundraising Party

Our first annual “Bailamos” private fundraising party was a sell-out success. It was a night filled with Latin music, great people, and a lot of dancing. The party took place at CAMP Supper Club in Montreal. We will inform you when our next fundraising party is scheduled.

EDR Christmas Donations

We host a Christmas party at our community center every year where we celebrate the year’s accomplishments. We reinforce our commitment, inspire our children, and create hope for the coming year. Donations are announced and new projects are examined.
